I'm a solo elementalist too, and have found few difficulties, so here is what I recommend: Use all your weapon combinations to see what works best for your playstyle. Dagger/Dagger, Scepter/Dagger, Staff, Scepter/Focus, etc. Also each combination has a set of skills for each element, so do them all.
